Luke 4:16-21

Luke 4:16-21

I am locked in a cage with my heart.
A captive of its captivity.

The secrets it holds are many, there are places dark and deep.
In my cage I sit with all of them.
Alone without a key.
Afraid to move or see.

My adversary comes at me with lances through the bars.
He wounds me and he mocks me.
I have so many scars.

You approach with your key of light and slip it through the hole.
I recoil from the brightness. Try to hide what you would see.
“Fear not,” is what you speak to me as you open up the door.
With your steady hand you lift me out.
I am caged no more.

The secrets you have opened up.
You have cleansed me completely through.
Their hold on me is broken and I live anew.

“I’ve come to set the captives free, and heal up every breach.
My love is enough to take you out of harm’s reach.
Be free now. Come into my love and joy and peace.
There are many other captives waiting for release.
With my Spirit, you can help me. You have been where they are now.
Together, we will set them loose so they can walk my holy ground.
My kingdom is approaching, many eyes will see my light.
With your heart, now free and open, you can join me in my fight.”
